Initial Phone Call Consultation
Free 20 minute phone consultation
Being able to talk to me openly and honesty about your thoughts, feelings and struggles is all part of building our therapeutic relationship. The relationship between client and counsellor is very unique, rewarding and an important one.
Therefore, I offer a free - 20 minute phone consultation as this gives you the opportunity to ask me questions, get a sense of how comfortable you feel talking to me. This also provides me with the opportunity to ask you further questions to understand what is going on for you.
I aim to be as flexible as possible and provide short and long term counselling sessions and some evening availability.
Counselling Sessions - In Person
60 minute counselling sessions in person
In person sessions are also known as face to face session. These take place in my therapeutic office space in Liverpool. The building was an old school and has a lovely main hall that has a lot of art work displayed.
Some advantages of face to face sessions are:
Some people may not have a private space at home in which they can comfortably disclose personal information. If you live with other people, including family or friends, it can be difficult to find somewhere private to have a video call without other people hearing. This not only raises issues of confidentiality but also means that you may not be able to discuss certain personal issues in fear of being overheard.
Also, having counselling in a space away from home allows you time to sit and reflect. When you are travelling to your session, you may be exploring what you would like to talk about. When travelling home from your session, this can give you time and breathing space to reflect on the contents of what was brought up in the session, which helps with processing your thoughts and feelings.
Non-verbal communication and body language within the room can be noticed, helping me seek further clarification, which can help with the building of our therapeutic relationship and in turn helps you feel heard and seen.
Counselling Sessions - Online
60 minute counselling session online
Some of the advantages of online therapy are...
Online counselling is done remotely via devices such as the phone, tablet, or laptop. It is similar to in-person therapy, however, the process differs because it’s done remotely — you do not have to be in the my counselling office for sessions to take place.
Being home, some people feel comfortable and safe and can often help people to open up, be more vulnerable, and better manage disturbing or painful emotions that may arise during sessions. Being completely open and honest is a sure way of getting the most out of therapy.
Often more choice of counsellors that people can choose from as you are not restricted to a specific area or location.
Clinical Hypnotherapy Sessions
Clinical Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a changed state of awareness and increased relaxation that allows for improved focus and concentration. It also is called hypnotherapy.
Hypnosis usually is done with the guidance of a practitioner using verbal repetition and mental images. During hypnotherapy, most people feel calm and relaxed and within this peace and tranquillity state, people are more open to suggestions about behaviour changes.
Hypnotherapy can help you gain control over behaviours you would like to change. It may help you cope better with anxiety, stress, low mood, confidence, pain and many more. Even though you are more open to suggestion during hypnosis, you do not lose control over your behaviour, you can not be focused or encouraged to do anything you do not want to do and you are fully aware of where you are during a hypnosis session.
You may hear everything that is said to you, you may drift in and out and hear parts and you may not hear or remember anything at all and all these different experiences are completely normal.
Cathartic Counselling provides hypnotherapy sessions that are available face to face or online.
Additionally, there is a Hypnotherapy Programme based in Liverpool which is spread over three evenings over three weeks. The aim of the programme is to help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress.
Like anything in life, if we want things to change then we have to be willing and open to it. If we come with the mindset, "this will not work", then most likely, that is what you will receive. However, if you have the mindset of, "I am willing to try hypnotherapy, I am open to suggestions that will help me change the behaviours that are not serving me well anymore", then your are presenting a thought process to your subconscious that you are willing and open to the opportunity of relaxing and allowing yourself to let go and embrace the whole experience.
